Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel has said that scholarships provided to Nepali students by the Government of China have been a milestone in the development of the country.
Addressing the Awarding Ceremony of Chinese Government Scholarship, organised by the Embassy of China and the Confucius Institute on Monday, Minister Pokhrel viewed that inter-cultural learning would further deepen one's learning and that the exchange of scholarships between the two countries would further promote people to people relations as well.
Minister Pokhrel said that policy level and structure bases have been created in Nepal for socio-economic development to materialise Happy Nepali Prosperous Nepal campaign of the government. "I believe Chinese investment will go up under the BRI as China has the desire and the capacity to make investment."
Speaking in the programme, Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, expressed her hope that the students who got scholarship would contribute to Nepal's development after they return their homes.
She said that the Chinese Government had already provided scholarship to over 6,400 Nepali students to study in China the subjects such as engineering, aeronautics, hydropower, business administration, public health and Chinese language
 Over a hundred students have been provided scholarship for this year.
Saying that it was the fifth year of the launching of the BRI, the Chinese ambassador said that China, as a major economic partner of Nepal, was eager to expand cross Himalaya network under the BRI by cooperating with Nepal to build ports, highways, railways, airports, internet and hydropower.
She said the people to people relations strengthened by the exchanges of scholarship, youth programmes and others was the great asset of the age-old relations between the two neighbours.
Dr. Sarbottam Shrestha, Chairman of Araniko Society, said that Chinese universities where the Nepali students were granted scholarship had the world-class learning environment.
